The night opened up with a “raw” forum. This was the most unorthodox opening I’ve ever seen, and you will probably agree. All the Raw superstars were in the ring and each one of them asked questions to Stephanie McMahon, and she was answering random questions. It was lame. Trust me, it was boring.
Kelly Kelly defeated Victoria
This was a rather quick match up and there wasn’t a whole lot to talk about. Victoria looked to have this match sewn up, but instead of winning she loses to Kelly Kelly. Yeah, Victoria has been reduced to being a stepping stone for newer divas to get over. A sad state in the women’s division in WWE; post match Victoria got her revenge, but it was too little too late.
Batista defeated Manu
This match started off with Manu looking good. This is the first time I’ve seen Manu actually getting a good shot at anyone. He was really showing off, lifting Batista and having his way with the big guy with ease. Manu is quite athletic, and was surprising even as he was so quick at delivering maneuvers, and he made them look so easy. If you saw his spinning heel kick, you know what I mean. He’s got hops and skills, but who knows if he’ll continue to show them off as time goes on. Batista turned this match around before things could get too out of hand and was prepared to win the match swiftly but Manu managed a minor comeback before getting speared out of his boots. Batista delivered the Batista bomb and it was all over. This match was ok at best, Manu looked good, until he got squashed by Batista. Randy Orton was on the ramp, but offered nothing for this match up. Batista again looks good, and he’ll most likely get another title match sooner than later.
The Miz & John Morrison defeated Rey Mysterio & Shawn Michaels
This match didn’t make much sense to me. It seemed like a random tag match that the wwe put together to just fill time. There’s no rhyme or reason for this at all and it looks like Miz and Morrison are just a go to tag team for no apparent reason. They aren’t chasing the titles, they are the equivalent of The Orient Express at the old Royal Rumble cards. I’ll give credit to Miz and Morrison as they are the premiere tag team in the wwe, going to every show and wrestling a match, however they aren’t getting the push that a tag team championship team deserves. I don’t watch the dirt sheet by the way, that’s for sure. This matchup wasn’t all that bad, the bad guys seemed to have Rey Mysterio isolated for a good portion of this match up until HBK got the hot tag and cleaned house. HBK hit Miz with sweet chin music, only to get hit himself by Morrison with a superkick and Miz fell on top of HBK and it was all over. The Miz pins Michaels and the two idiots win over some of the top wwe stars.
Kane & JBL defeated Cryme Tyme
I can’t believe how this one went. This was a dumb pairing if you ask me, and I didn’t understand what side Kane was on. Is he a heel? Is he a face? I’m not sure really. Cryme Tyme is another team that doesn’t get that tag team push. They just exist in a division where the champions are not even a regular tag team. What a stupid division. This match wasn’t all that good at all. This match consisted of Cryme Tyme getting beat down then JBL running in for the clothesline from hell and it was all over. This was a stupid match, I didn’t like it and all it showed was that JBL and Kane can coexist.
Matt Hardy vs. William Regal (Double Countout)
This once again was champion versus champion as Matt Hardy took on the new intercontinental champion. Regal was getting worked over early on and was making Hardy look like a major contender. Regal turned things around and gave through a more smash mouth style than he usually has. The two were counted out and no one wins. The two continued to fight each other outside of the ring, and then the wwe officials came out and restrained everyone.
Randy Orton defeated CM Punk in a 30 Man Lumber Jack Match
I’m not a big fan of lumberjack matches, they usually don’t end up being all that great. This match of course started in the ring with the two exchanging rest holds and initial lock ups. Orton seemed to be 100% healed as he was quick to his feet and was evading all of Punk’s initial offense. Randy Orton made things look decent, as he was getting thrown outside of the ring a lot. He kept going on the wrong side of the ring, getting worked completely while on the outside of the ring. For being a lumberjack match, the two spent a lot of time in the ring battling back and forth. This match actually got really good as the wrestlers outside of the ring were reacting to each move, as if they really didn’t know the winner. I liked that, I liked that they were selling the magic in the ring. I liked the match overall and while it wasn’t the most technical match in the world, it had enough action to be called a serious main event match up, even for a Monday Night Raw. The end came when Regal distracted punk, who then walked into an RKO! That’s right, it was all over with the diamond cutter…I mean the RKO.
Postmatch, Orton was running to cm punk to deliver another kick to the head, but was stopped by Batista, and then a melee ensued inside the ring as each wrestler came in to stop the others from coming in. It was really cool, everyone was getting clean shots in there and no one had the advantage, and we went through it all and faded to black.

Overall a good edition of Raw. It’s not that great. It’s ok though, I liked it enough to say it was a good edition of raw. There was some convoluted matches and unnecessary backstage antics, but that’s ok I guess.
