WWE Smackldown 10/31/08 Results and Review

Everyone was excited to hear that there would be a Casket Match on tonight’s Smckdown, however when I heard who would face the Undertaker I was less than thrilled. Yep, tonight we would get none other than Chavo Guerrero against the dead man in the Casket Match! Lame. Jim Ross and Tazz were dressed up for Halloween, it was hilarious!

John Morrison & The Miz defeated Carlito & Primo

I just wanted to say that I hate Non-Title matches, they are stupid and fans that pay to go see these events should get treated to title defenses, if you ask me. I give Morrison a lot of crap, but the guy can go in the ring. Carlito was getting the better of him early on, but Morrison was holding his own in there for a while, and despite his earlier work in WWE, he’s getting a lot better and is looking nearly like a Veteran. The Colon’s once again isolated the ring and worked extremely well, I haven’t seen Carlito so invigorated in the ring since his debut and Intercontinental championship run. Highlight of the match was a double arm drag on Morrison onto a Miz, who was on the outside! Then after the commercial break things looked to have turned around, but it was short lived to say the least, as Carlito and Primo were just working like a solid team. Jim Ross compared Miz and Morrison to Mr. Perfect and Ravishing Rick Rude! That was just stupid. Morrison and Miz put together quite the fight in the last part of this match, and I was finally impressed with how they work as a team. The crowd was firmly behind The Colon brothers in this one, and I was surprised they have gotten so much fan fare in such a short amount of time. Carlito had the match one it seemed, but Miz turned things around, Morrison dropped Carlito, and Miz took advantage, pinning Carlito for the victory. Overall a good match up and a solid opener, The Miz and Morrison really look good as a team and they are really starting to get a push, and will most likely get buried on Monday against Dx.

Jimmy Wang Yang defeated The Brian Kendrick via Disqualification

One of my favorite wrestlers put on another show. He was definitely bringing in shades of Brian Pillman, and was growing frustrated in the early goings of this match as Jimmy Wang Yang was getting the better of him. I though Wang got fired? Whatever, he was putting on quite the show early on, but eventually the tables were turned by Kendrick who put the boots to Yang with some great heavy hitting moves, focusing mainly on the shoulder of Jimmy Wang Yang. Yang turned things around again and looked set to win the match but Ezekiel pulled Kendrick out before he could lose the match. Ezekiel then fought Yang and dropped him like a sack of potatoes and Kendrick then gave him The Kendrick for good measure.

Once again, for the record, The Great Khali kiss cam sucks. Why waste your talent with this? It’s stupid to consider that just a few months back Khali was wrestling Triple H for the world title, and now look at him he’s in midcard hell kissing ugly (no offense) women on his “kiss cam” segment. It’s just stupid, and I hope the WWE starts to change things with Khali, this waste of talent thing is boring me completely.

The Hardy Boyz, and Rey Mysterio defeated Kane, Mvp, and Mark Henry

This match is a perfect example as to why there shouldn’t be any brand separation. There are six guys in there and all of them are on different brands however they are all wrestling on a Smackdown show? Yeah, they should just forget the draft and let it be a free for all, it would make for way more exciting cards.

The match started with Mark Henry dominating, and MVP getting some great offense in for a change. It’s about time that MVP got some offense in, however that wasn’t huge, because Rey Mysterio tagged in and since they were in his Home town, he got in and cleaned house, giving MVP everything but the kitchen sink. Too bad for MVP, he must have done something wrong in WWE cause he’s been on a downward spiral for a long time now. Mysterio nearly wins the match early on with a splash off the top rope onto MVP. This thing was breaking at the seams early on which was awesome! Lots of high spots, lots of quick moves, everyone seemed to be bringing their A game, and then Kane pulled Mysterio out of the ring and onto the floor, and the tables turned towards the bad guy’s favor! However, this was very short, and the good guys all dropped their best moves. Splashes to the outside, Swanton Bombs, Old School Hardy moves, and MVP once again gets pinned on Smackdown and the good guys put on a show for the San Diego crowd (the 619 for those of you from So Cal).

Once again I want to point out that Kizarny SUCKS!

Kozlov and Triple H nearly went to blows in the ring as Kozlov wants a title shot. Triple H said that just like the Rocky movies he would beat up the Russian, and nothing happened. Lame.

Michelle McCool, Maria, and Brie Bella defeated Maryse, Victoria, and Natalya

I don’t like any of these divas. Natalya can wrestle, that’s for sure and Victoria can too, but I never see anything really that good from the Divas division. Not like the beloved TNA Knockout division that has some great wrestling. This is a standard divas match up, and wasn’t really that good. With so much wrestling that the divas actually do a year, you would think they would start to put on better wrestling matches, instead of this same cookie cutter match ups filled with botched moves and horrible endings. Oh well, I guess the WWE will never learn. Maria dove off the top rope and picked up the win over Victoria in one of the worst matches in Smackdown women’s wrestling history.

The Undertaker defeated Chavo Guerrero in a Casket Match

I didn’t expect this match to be very good at all, and while I personally love the old Casket Matches, this just seemed tired somehow. The Undertaker was in clear control of Chavo Guerrero and rightfully so, Chavo hasn’t been relevant to today’s youth for a long time. Every time that Undertaker would try to drop Chavo in, The Big Show would shut the casket lid, and the Undertaker couldn’t throw him in there. That meant that Chavo had to take a lot of punishment for no apparent reason. However, then The Undertaker stormed the ring and started dropping big right hands onto Taker, and I knew where this was going. Remember Royal Rumble 1994? Where a million wrestlers came out and beat up Undertaker to put him into the Casket? I was expecting this to happen. It looked that way, but Big Show ran up the ring and Chavo was eventually thrown into the casket, and it was closed! Undertaker puts away Chavo in this Casket Match for the easy victory and you know what? Why? This is stupid. What a lousy main event, and what a lousy opponent to have Undertaker wrestle. I hated how this all turned out.

Big news!

Kozlov must defeat The Undertaker next week and if he does, he will get Triple H at Survivor Series! NOW THAT’s RELEVANT TO TODAY’S YOUTH!
