ECW on ScyFy 8/25/09 Review

The show began with William Regal and his cronies in ring talking about how the fans are idiots. Christian came out to the ramp with mic in hand, and prodded William Regal, in usual Christian fashion. I of course was half asleep. The general manager came out, and made a rematch for tonight to get the number one contender spot.

Shamus vs Goldust double count out

These guys have been exchanging wins for a while now, and it’s somewhat nice to finally see Goldust getting a little bit of a push, even if it is on ECW and not the main stage. The crowd seemed into this match, despite the lack of major titles on the line or anything that would fabricate crowd reaction. Goldust hit a flatliner, and it looked like this one was all gold, but Shamus managed to kick out. The two went to the floor and battled it out, and eventually both opponents were counted out, and that was the end of this one.

Tyler Rex and Yoshi Tatsu defeated Shelton Benjamin and Zack Ryder

This match seemed strange to me, but I admit, I wasn’t feeling good so this whole night was surreal. Benjamin and Rex started this match exchanging reversals, and it was Rex that was impressing the crowd until Benjamin quieted him up. Ryder would not tag in, in typical heel fashion. It was Shelton that ended up wrestling most of this match up, until he finally got fed up and forcefully threw Ryder into the ring. Ryder didn’t get any offense in, just got booted in the face, and Tatsu got the win easily. This match was ok, Tatsu continues to impress the fans, and it’s nice to see a Japanese wrestler getting back into the WWE roster.

William Regal defeated Christian

This match was predictable to me. After their summerslam match, it seemed only natural that these two would fight again for the belt, just not tonight. Christian was definitely on top of his game, at least for the onset of the match up, but it went downhill as Regal was trying to impose his will. Regal kept hitting Christian with heavy hands, and rest holds, but it was Christian that was making this match interesting for me. William Regal hit his finisher and won clean. No interference, no major qualms, he won clean. Well…Kozlov distracted Christian, so this wasn’t the cleanest, but eh…what are you gonna do?

ECW kind of sucked tonight. Maybe I was tired, maybe it was actually just a bad show.
