WWE Friday Night Smackdown 7/9/10 Review

Drew McIntyre was in ring and out came Teddy Long with a mic...another boring promo featuring the world's most boring wrestler ever. Drew McIntyre was calling Teddy, Mr. Long, and he was sucking up to the general manager big time. I was on the brink of falling asleep during this opening promo, as McIntyre has NO charisma and is as bland as a mayonaise sandwich on white bread...just sayin.

Teddy Long wanted Drew McIntyre to drop to his knees and ask for forgiveness. Drew did so and asked to get into the Money In The Bank Ladder match. Teddy Long made a match between Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston and if he wins, he's in. This promo took a good portion of the beginning of the show and was terribly dry and boring.

Dolph Ziggler defeated Chavo Guerrero and MVP in a triple threat match

This match was interesting, because Ziggler and Chavo were supposed to be working together with Vickie. Vickie wanted Dolph to win but the WWE was trying to get the fans behind Chavo as the sympathetic wrestler by having him turn on Vickie in this match up. The crowd response wasn't that extreme, and it was hard to look over the fact that MVP was the obvious favorite in this match up. The match had some good spots, and broke down to the regular formula of Triple Threat Matches with 1 person getting thrown out of the ring only to leave two guys in ring. MVP was ready to win this one, but Vickie pulled the ref out when MVP had this thing completely won. Dolph Ziggler jumped MVP and lights out, Ziggler won and got into the Money in the Bank match up.

I liked the dynamic of Vickie being a good manager that is helping Dolph get into the match up. Guerrero's sympathetic heel/face turn was subtle at times and I'm not sure if the fans wanted that at all. The crowd reaction was nice throughout the high points and low points of this match. The worst part of the match was not the actual match, but rather the announce team. The Smackdown announce team is the WORST team in broadcasting wrestling. It seriously is the worst, and most boring commentary to listen to.

Backstage Rey Mysterio was told that he had a ligament tear in his Ankle. Dolph Ziggler jumped in and put Rey into the Ankle Lock, and no one was helping. This could be a good way of getting Rey to drop the title, and get written off the show as Swagger carryied the Ankle Lock and dragged Mysterio through the backstage area. He's done, Swagger is looking more and more ruthless, and Mysterio is out, he's completely out folks, and I guess I'm buying into it...man I'm a sucker.

Vance Archer & Curt Hawkins defeated Matt Hardy & Christian

Matt Hardy is fat. Christian is lacking in the Charisma department lately. Vance Archer and Curt Hawkins suck, and just don't have “it”, in my view. This was a fast match, and while there was a small amount of offense, it ended after Christian turned on Matt Hardy. He dragged Matt Hardy over the top rope by dragging his arm, and Vance Archer capitalized. Hawkins and Archer basically beat Matt Hardy as Christian turns heel on Matt Hardy.

Remember when the Intercontinental Champion automatically received a World Title Shot? They would always bill the matches as “Champion vs Champion” and make it a big deal? Those were the days.

Drew McIntyre defeated Kofi Kingston

Drew McIntyre couldn't beat Kofi in title matches, but to qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match he can. This match wasn't all that good, and I didn't particularly find it very entertaining. Sure there were some of the usual spots, and after getting thrown into the ring post Drew hit the Future Shock DDT to win the match. Kofi is always good, but while wrestling a bland Drew McIntyre, he just couldn't carry him, in my opinion.

The Straightedge Society was airing their dirty laundry. I think Serena is hot. Punk forgave his fallen chick, and that was that. Man, that Southpark parody is so true in many ways. It's all drama...arg.

Dashing Cody Rhodes defeated JTG

Dashing Cody Rhodes is really making a name for himself beating up has been tag team wrestlers. Remember when it was big Shad's “TIME”, well it seems that JTG is getting more matches than the bigger man that was getting the solo push. JTG is ok, but he needs more than just the “Cryme Tyme” gimmick to go solo. I was impressed with the fast paced offense of JTG, I just don't see the WWE pushing him any time soon. Cody Rhodes, on the other hand, was making a major impact and he's gotten a lot better since being in Legacy, and it's nice to see him develop. He hit CrossRhodes and that was that, the clean win.

The Big Show vs Jack Swagger (Double Countout)

This match wasn't that great, but one thing I can always count on is seeing Big Show manhandle an opponent. I wouldn't want to work with Big Show, he seems to hit very hard. He was inflicting some major pain on Swagger and if the sound is any resemblance of the pain involved with getting hit by a tree trunk of a fist, then working with Big Show is no fun. Big Show forgot that his ankle was injured cause he turned the injury on and off throughout the match. This thing was even handed, and eventually had the two fighting on the ramp before Swagger kicked Show in the leg and left him in pain.

Backstage Kane grabbed Swagger and was blaming him for the Undertaker's vegetative state. Swagger was then put in a red room and Kane looked like he was going to molest the guy.

I'm sick of the Kane gimmick, this show had some lackluster matches, and just made me once again hate watching Smackdown. Good riddance when they are off of “Mytv” or whatever. I'm sick of this crap...I need a drink.

Swagger said he would prove that he didn't beat up Taker or whatever. WHO CARES!? Kane probably did it, and will face the Undertaker in a Hell in the Cell match or a buried alive match or something like that. I'm sick of this angle, I'm glad the week in wrestling is now over.

Stay tuned for my weekly recap and commentary including answering your comments and questions.
