WWE Backlash 2016 Results and Review

Dean Ambrose's Reign Was Worse Than Any Roman Reigns Title Reign
This past weekend, WWE had a ppv that I didn’t get to watch at first, but eventually figured it out and saw it. I also caught that CM Punk fight, if you can call it that. Good stuff. Here’s what I thought about the big one from Smackdown Live.

WWE Backlash 2016 Results

Baron Corbin def. Apollo Crews
Becky Lynch won the Six-Pack Challenge to become the first SmackDown Women’s Champion
The Usos def. The Hype Bros in a Second Chance Challenge
Intercontinental Champion The Miz def. Dolph Ziggler
Kane def. Bray Wyatt in a No Holds Barred Match
Heath Slater & Rhyno def. The Usos to become the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions
AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Championship

WWE Backlash 2016 Review

Baron Corbin def. Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews has been brought up to the big leagues to be a jobber. The WWE is not good at putting together good talent, sometimes, huh? Whatever.

Becky Lynch won the Six-Pack Challenge to become the first SmackDown Women’s Champion

Holy Crap! The women actually put on a showcase of great wrestling. There’s a lot to this, and if you didn’t see it, go back and watch it. Smackdown’s women are great, and I dare say better than Raw. I couldn’t believe the timing on some of this stuff, and it was definitely worth their position on the night.

The Usos def. The Hype Bros in a Second Chance Challenge

Boring.

Intercontinental Champion The Miz def. Dolph Ziggler

The Miz put on one of his best matches ever. He was mocking Daniel Bryan the whole time. Ziggler at this point is nothing more than a jobber. Good performance, but Miz once again shows why he’s been in the ring for over a decade, without injury. There were some brutal spots here, though, so good overall showing.

Match Rating: 3 out of 5

Kane def. Bray Wyatt in a No Holds Barred Match

Orton couldn’t compete so Kane took his place. There was only one good spot here and it was Bray Wyatt doing a senton on Kane through a table. Other than that, nothing. Wyatt is the eater of pins at this point.

Match Rating: 2 out of 5

Heath Slater & Rhyno def. The Usos to become the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions

This was awesome, but not because of the match. The match was ok, but it was Heath Slater getting so much crowd reaction that made this one. Rhyno and Slater managed to pull off the big victory, and I’m glad it went down this way. This has been the most compelling long-term story line that the WWE has created in a long time. Slater and Rhyno work very well together and I’m glad that this turned out to be a contract winning match.

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Championship

Now this was great match, in fact, one of the best matches I’ve seen in a long time. This was a back and forth affair, but really, it was Aj Styles proving why he is the best in the world right now. Ambrose was resting on his laurels again, doing the same old moves he does, but there were shining moments. However, it was Styles that was making this a compelling match up overall. I loved it. Lots of great moments, and the Styles Clash finish was great. Styles is your new champion!

Match Rating: 4 out of 5

Overall Backlash was very good, I liked it. It was like watching a glorified Tuesday night Smackdown, but overall it had some great wrestling. The last two matches were my favorites, and they really seemed to drive a good feeling into the crowd. Good stuff.
